Press: Radio / TV / Speaking Engagements Updated Jul. 15th, 1999
Here's a collection of various radio, television and speaking appearances or panels I have made over the years.

This is incomplete because I barely ever kept track of this stuff. (I'm still trying to track down copies for my own collection.)

Fairchild Television, Vancouver BC, May 4th, 1999
John Leung from Fairchild TV, a Cantonese station, came in with the most savvy crew I think I've ever seen. The theme was MP3's, streaming audio versus downloadable file formats, and the overall impact of MP3's on companies like Nettwerk. This was the first time I got to feature the Nettradio website, since we had literally just completed it the day before. Really cool people. I never got to see the piece because I don't get the Fairchild station. I'm always intrigued by who does the voice-over. :)
Vancouver Television, Vancouver BC, December 18th, 1998.
This was an interview with Coleen Christie at VTV regarding the introduction of the Diamond Rio Portable MP3 player and its impact on the record industry.
New Music West Conference, Vancouver BC, May, 1997. Music Promotion On The Internet (Panel)
This was a panel involving six people (only two of whose names I can remember: Tom Wilson from Junkhouse and Tim Laramy from Liquid Audio in Redwood California.) It started off okay but the guy who was heading up the panel decided to instead ask how many people were online, how many had used a website to purchase music, etc. It turned into a survey. Then it turned into a singular lecture on "How Liquid Audio will change the way everyone listens to music from this day forward." Nobody stopped the guy. I think everyone else got maybe two words in the whole time. It was a small panel but I mean really. At the end everyone was wondering about why we didn't cover more material about actual artist promotion. That's a good question.
Canadian Music Week, Toronto ON, March 14th 1997. Music Promotion And The Internet (Panel)
I apologize again for not remembering a single name of anyone on this panel. It was attended pretty widely by a lot of mostly radio and indie music press people from across Canada. It covered the basics of the web, the music industry, the lack of label participation in the online community, and the potential for online music sales. That's literally all I can remember about it.

Well.... that and the freezing cold. :)
CMJ, New York NY, Sept., 1996. The Internet And The Modern Musician (Panel)
I was on a panel with one speaker from MTV Online, one from N2K (makers of the MusicBlvd.com website), and two others from various multimedia organizations. My contribution had to do with the etiquette of the internet and how not to come across as some total suit merely looking to shuck whatever new artist you have on the online public. This is really a bygone topic since now (2003,) since practically everyone is online and has no real care about how they are spoken to unless you haven't first said you are JoeSmith1 M/18/NyNy. Kinda weird that way.
CBC Radio, Vancouver BC, September 1996.
A small radio news piece about Nettwerk's internet presence and how they had promoted themselves on the internet at large, and the web in particular. I made a point of mentioning the other methods of promotion I had paid attention to like newsgroups and IRC chats, something barely anybody cares about or pays attention to. It was cool. I do not remember the interviewer's name but she was part of the national CBC radio news on the AM band. It aired across Canada later that day.
