2007

2006

2005

Jul. 18th, 2008   July is already more than half done. :(

But at least it's Friday! This week we have a weird array of... weird!

Here goes...

» Modern Moist Towelette Collecting

[self explanatory?]
This site also features the Inexplicable Object Of The Week. The site is quite old but the reviews and descriptions are quite entertaining.

» Fork-You

"YES this phenomenon is for real. Although there may well be 'magic tricks' to bend forks, the method covered on this site does not involve any 'trick'. It works exactly the way we say, and there are now hundreds of thousands of people around the world who have experienced this in person."
Funny. Once. But still funny.
Sent in by Miko.

» yyyyyyy.info

An online creation (or something) made by Michael Guidetti, a musician and artist. There are several links on here that are meaningless, but a couple that are very interesting (to me.)
Sent in by Joe M.

» Open-Doors

Very cool and addictive game where you have to strategically open or close a series of doors to get to the exit. Nicely done. (And you get a little golf-clap when you complete a level.)

I hope your Friday has been an excellent one!

Jul. 11th, 2008   Frrrriiiday!

Yay!

Let's begin...

» Disapproving Rabbits

[self explanatory?]

» Exploding Dog

"hi my name is sam, i draw pictures, from your titles."
Some of these are hilarious. Many of them are quite odd.
Sent in by Jen M.

"A German website, Pundo3000.com, has conducted a study of 100 different products by comparing the look of the products as shown by the packaging with the actual contents inside the boxes."

» This Is Sand

A neat, and quite zen, art installation piece. You can't save your creations but it can sure take your mind off of things for a while.

Bonus Link:

» Typical Facebook Romance

[self explanatory]
Sent in by Miko.

And there you have it!

Have a great weekend everybody.

ad

P.S. Did you know that you can now buy fabulous Friday Links products? It's true! Visit the fabulous new Friday Links Cafepress Store!
(Feedback and suggestions are welcome.)

Jul. 4th, 2008   Ahhhh summer.....

And some Friday links!

Yes, you too can drive the same route as Steve McQueen did. Just... watch your speed (and construction.)
Sent in by Daryl F.

"Pictures of other people's parties from Flickr"
Some of these are priceless.
Sent in by Ashy.

Push crates off your ledge without getting crushed by newly-falling crates. Very addictive.

Happy Weekend everybody, and Happy Long Weekend to our American friends.

Jun. 27th, 2008   It's the last Friday of June 2008. :(

But at least we have some Friday links!

Here we go.

» Celebrity Money Mashup

My personal favorite: Mel Gibson.
Sent in by Miko.

» Way Out Junk

Another insane "wacky record" collector, who rips the yard-sale vinyl he finds to MP3's for your listening... uhhhmmmm... enjoyment?
Today's featured album was "7 Days To Better Bowling", a self hypnosis record intended for right-handed bowlers only (?!) Quite insane. Lots of oldschool kid's records on here too.

» The Most Memorable TV Ads of the 70

[Self explanatory]
"You're soaking in it!"

» Neon Layers

Turn on and off a series of neon lights to guide a ball to an exit. Trickier than it sounds.
Sent in by Jennidub.

Bonus Link:

» The PhonoGraPhantasmaScope

Difficult to explain, but certainly worth seeing. It's a trick that only works through a camera. Very cool.

Have a great (long) weekend, everyone!

ad

Jun. 20th, 2008   You know what time it is...

Oh! And! Welcome to Summer (tomorrow!)

Heeeeere we go.

» Getty Images: Moodstream

Wow! Fascinating interface. Choose a mood, and several other parameters, and watch as several brief clips are seamlessly intertwined over selections of music. Very interesting interface, and pretty seamless execution.

» I Am Neurotic

Sort of along the lines of many of the confessional sites I've featured in the past. A bit odd.
"Whenever I drink out of a canned beverage, I must turn the tab to the right side. I do this with every can I see even if it's not mine."
Sent in by Trace. (Who is NOT neurotic.)

» Suck.UK: USB Mix Tape

Pretty ingenious packaging. It's a cassette tape shell featuring a 64mb USB stick, upon which you can lovingly compile a mixtape (or whatever else you want to digitally give to someone.)
Sent in by The Stoob!

» Puzzle Farter

I'm not even going to try and describe it. It's funny. And it's addictive.

"This website pays tribute to the vast range of seven inch singles which came under the banner of ‘punk’ between 1976 and 1984."
Aaaaamen! (And now I feel old.)

» The Andy Rooney Game

"Comedian Joe Mande invented a cute game: Remove all but the first and last sentence of Andy Rooney's segment from 60 Minutes, and put the result on YouTube."
It actually tightens things up a lot. Nicely done.

» Epsilon

Another excellent game from Armor Games
Sure it's another "Portal" knock off, but it's fun and completely addictive. Hard to believe this is just a flash game, actually.

...enjoy, Friday people!

ad

» GetHuman

"The gethuman movement was created from the voices of millions of consumers who want to be treated with dignity when they contact an enterprise for customer support."

» Space Shuttle Processing: Rarely seen by the general public

Indeed! All the steps needed to assemble and launch the Space Shuttle Discovery.
If you're a space travel nerd like me, this is pretty amazing.

Yikes. There's a collector for everything isn't there. It even has a special section on a limited set of condiment packets produced by Taco Bell which featured little sayings on them.

» Kaleidosketch

Pretty neat browser hack that allows you to draw kaleidoscopic artwork. Fun!

Fantastic! (And not a bad Google Maps hack either.)
Sadly, no Toronto (yet.)

» Miestas

Takes a while to load, but it's worth it. Hand drawn game by Jurgis Jonaitis and Justinas Malijonis. This has apparently been around for a while, but I only tripped across it recently.

Enjoy!

ad

Apr. 25th, 2008   Friiiiiday! At last. :)

Onwards...

» The #1 Song On This Date In History

Choose a date (your birthdate, for example, down to the year.) This site provides an iTunes link to the song that was #1 on the Billboard charts for that exact date. Pretty exhaustively researched, and a neat idea (even promotes the purchasing of long forgotten songs.) Of course not all songs are represented on iTunes. The selections go back to 1891 or so, but iTunes does have some dating back as far as 1935.)

» Old photos of everything in the wind [late Edo try...]

It's all in Japanese, but it's pretty straightforward: Either upload an image, or provide a url to an image, then hit the blue button below. It turns any photo into one resembling an early Daguerrotype. Very cool.

» Taaz.com

This is a pretty interesting use of technology.

Enjoy! Happy Friday everybody.

ad

[Self explanatory] Requires Java.
Sent in by Ashy, who has evidently been playing with it for hours.

Happy Friday, Friday people!

ad

Jan. 18th, 2008   Friday links time!

Here we go...

» The 25 Best Music Videos Of 2007

The sad fact that nobody aired any of these (well: I did see the Bat For Lashes one in an ad on MTV, but that doesn't count) should be all anyone needs to figure out why the music industry is failing. Fantastic.
Note: Many of these are downloadable to your shiny new iPods.

» Overheard in the Office: The Voice of the Cubicle

A sample:

3PM Worst. Staff Meeting. Ever.
Office girl: Hey! I haven't seen you in a while, how've you been?
